Susan Ustin - remote sensing imagery

Susan Ustin: "Imaging Spectrometry " - Susan Ustin
Professor of Resource Science, Department of Land, Air, and Water Resources, UC Davis

Her research has focused on developing and testing methods for retrieving environmental information from remote sensing imagery. The work has been conducted at spatial scales from microscopic to regional (e.g., watershed) studies. The goal has been to develop a fundamental understanding of processes based on physical principles that utilize the full information content of the data rather than an empirical focus on the visual or pictorial patterns. Dr. Ustin has studied many different ecological communities and farmlands in the US and abroad, including boreal and temperate forests, semi-arid shrublands, and grasslands. Her environmental research includes both basic and applied research directions and has been funded by NASA, EPA, DOE, USDA, other federal and state agencies, and private corporations. She has authored more than 80 reviewed scientific papers and 80 proceedings papers, developing innovative techniques to extract environmental information from the remotely sensed image data.
